Reynier chasing more Group 1 glory with Skalleti

The Group 1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis at Munich on 30 July has been identified as a possible next target for Skalleti.

The Jerome Reynier-trained gelding is a seasoned European campaigner and took the ten furlong Group 1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis in 2021 by five lengths. Since the victory, he has also made two successful trips to Italy, winning the Group 2 Premio Roma Italian Champions in November 2021 and more recently, the Group 2 Premio President Della Repubblica in May at Campannelle.

Winner of the Group 1 Prix d'Ispahan in 2021 and Group 2 Prix d'Harcourt in 2022, Skalleti has been struggling to make his presence felt at the top level in France over the last six months and was comfortably beaten by Haya Zark in the Group 3 Prix Exbury on seasonal reappearance.

His last start-success in the Group 2 Premio President Della Repubblica has shown the eight-year-old can still be competitive in top-flight European races.

"We're very happy with him, he won well the other day and came back in good shape," said trainer Jerome Reynier.

"The plan would be to go back to Munich where he won the Group One two years ago, but he has been entered in Vichy in case it's raining there.

"I think his owners would be very happy to see him running in the Grand Prix de Vichy, but only if the ground gets soft enough.

"We will see a few days before, but Munich is a brilliant track and it could be a great opportunity to try to win another Group One with him.

"He did it really well two years ago, he likes the track and it should suit him really well.

"On a big, open track like Rome he is still competitive at eight years of age. He's a living legend to be honest! He's unbelievable."
