Belmont Stakes and Travers winner Arcangelo will not contest this year's Breeders' Cup Classic, after trainer Jena Antonucci told FanDuel's Joaquin Jaime on Tuesday morning.

The three-year-old son of Arrogate presented with heat in his left-hind hoof on Saturday afternoon, and subsequently missed two pieces of crucial work explained Jena Antonucci.

An emotional Antonucci, who became the first female trainer to win a Triple Crown Race when her stable star Arcangelo landed the Belmont Stakes, said: "From day one, we will always be horse first, no matter what,"

"Sure, there's a big racing coming up, but as we famously talk about spreadsheets and time frames, they don't really care about those. And so, we have so many amazing options here for being able to diagnose and figure things out; they have amazing modalities that we're going to take advantage of that. To be able to do so, I've run out of time, and we've run out of time because obviously you have to sedate horses and do those kinds of things. With having withdrawal times and all of the things that we have put in place that are so important for us to continue to do right by our horses, we need to do right by him and missing a race is going to be what it's going to be this time.

"John [Ebbert, Owner] and I, we've talked a ton about this and if we have ever had any question or doubt, it's a no. And so, for us, it's a no. As I know it would be for every other owner and trainer and every horseman on the backside.

"It's about him. It's his journey. And I've said from day one, it's his journey and whatever we accomplish is so cool and great and all of that, but he's going to be ok and I'm going to make sure he's ok. And John's committed to that too."

Arcangelo will retire with career earnings of $1,754,900 and stand at Lane's End Farm for the 2024 season.
