Classic Aspirations For Toast Of New York

The richest race in America, the $US5 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita in late October, is a possible target for exciting UK three-year-old Toast of New York.

The Jamie Osborne-trained colt opened his US campaign with an impressive second in the G1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar in California last Sunday.

The Jamie Osborne-trained three-year-old would have to make history to triumph at Santa Anita as no British-trained runner has ever won a Breeders' Cup Classic on dirt.

Toast Of New York rose to stardom back in March when storming to victory in the G2 UAE Derby at Meydan in Dubai.

Last Sunday he finished second to unbeaten superstar Shared Belief, the champion US. 2YO colt last season.

"He ran a great race, the race of his life. The winner may be the best 3-year-old anywhere," commented Osborne.

"My horse stepped up quite a bit from his win in the UAE Derby and the Dubai World Cup next year remains a long-term objective."

Toast Of New York was the victim of interference by the winner as they straightened however, following a stewards initiated enquiry, the placings remained unchanged.
