Dubai World Cup For California Chrome

Shared Belief and California Chrome are to go their separate ways with a return clash of the champions unlikely to happen in the near future.

Both camps have made definitive statements about where they are heading after Shared Belief's clear victory over California Chrome in the G2 San Antonio Invitational Stakes at Santa Anita last weekend.

Shared Belief will be pointed to the $1 million Santa Anita Handicap on March 7 while California Chrome will be set for the $10 million Dubai World Cup at Meydan on March 28.

Shared Belief was in excellent condition according to trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, after the 4-year-old son Candy Ride took his record to nine wins from 10 starts in the San Antonio, vindicating the widely held view that he was unlucky to lose the Breeders Cup Classic in November in his only career defeat when fourth behind Bayern.

California Chrome's trainer Art Sherman had openly expressed his wishes to keep his 4YO in the US but has bowed to his owners wishes to send the reigning Horse of the Year to Dubai.

"He's going to Dubai," Sherman said. "We're preparing for that. The horse came out of the San Antonio well and ate up good."
