Shared Belief Suffers Hip Fracture

Outstanding 4YO Shared Belief has been diagnosed with a hip fracture and is likely to miss the rest of 2015 as a result of the injury he sustained in last Saturday's Charles Town Classic when he failed to finish.

Jockey Mike Smith pulled up the four-year-old about halfway through the $1.5 million event won by Moreno.

He has since been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture on the point of his right hip.

“We’d love to have him back by year’s end but we’ll give him as much time as he needs," said part-owner and bloodstock agent Alex Solis II.

“We’ll re-x-ray around two months and see what it looks like. The prognosis should be excellent, that’s the hope.

“If he’s around at the end of the year, great. If not, he’s a gelding and we’ll have him next year.

“We’ll let the horse do the talking.”

Shared Belief did not travel well after stumbling at the start last Saturday and was pulled up by his Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith entering the second turn.

Shared Belief’s connections praised Smith for protecting Shared Belief as his quick reaction proabaly avoided the horse suffering more serious injuries.

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer had Shared Belief flown back to his California stables on Tuesday.

“He is going to go out for 45 to 60 days at the Pegasus Training Center in Renton in Washington,”Holendorfer said.

“Hopefully he will resume training after that. My vet thinks that it is not going to be a serious long range problem."

Shared Belief kicked off this season with victories in in the G2 San Antonio Invitational and G1 Santa Anita Hcp before having his first start outside of California in the Charles Town Classic.
