The winner of four Australian races including the 2013 Wellington Boot when trained by Trevor Sutherland at Wagga, Power Alert was sent to the United States by his owners after he bled for a second time and was banned from racing in Australia.

His win over 1000m in the Twin Spires Stakes on turf was his third from four starts in America where he is allowed to race on the anti-bleedng medication Lasix.

Ridden by Julien Leparoux for trainer Brian Lynch, Power Alert took the lead mid-race and won in course record time of 55.17 seconds.

The previous record of 55.45 was set in 2010.

“He was sharp at Keeneland this week and was on his game today,” Lynch said.

“The way the track was playing, I thought he would have to be close to the lead.”

Another Australian sprinter Man Of Illusion, now at stud in Queensland, won the Twin Spires Stakes in 2006.

Power Alert won at his US debut in Florida in December and then won the Listed Silks Run Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
