New Jersey Ready To Welcome American Pharoah

New Jersey will roll out the red carpet for Triple Crown champion American Pharoah when the three-year-olds lands in Atlantic City on Wednesday.

American Pharoah will be flown to New Jersey from California and will get a police escort for the 100km road trip from Atlantic City International Airport to Monmouth Park where he will be stabled with Kelly Breen.

The Bob Baffert-trained colt is scheduled to have his first start since his historic Triple Crown sweep in Monmouth Park’s GI Haskell Invitational Stakes on August 2, a race his trainer has won a record seven times.

Baffert was more than pleased with American Pharoah after he gave the three-year-old a fast six furlong bullet work in 1:11 flat at Del Mar on Thursday.

“He’s right on course. No excuses, he’ll be ready to go there,”Baffert said after the workout.

“I think he’s getting faster. He gives me goosebumps.

“He needed to get back to the track. He looked like he did it easy.

“We’ll work him an easy half next Tuesday before we leave.”

With jockey Martin Garcia in the irons, American Pharoah ran splits of 12.40, 24, 36.20 and 58.8 seconds in his six furlong work.
