Owner Rick Porter and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer has confirmed the race plans for the daughter of Medaglia D’Oro.

“Jerry Hollendorfer and I have decided to run in the Santa Ysabel,” Porter posted on Facebook.

“This will give us a month between the Las Virgenes and the Santa Anita Oaks. This should fit just right for the Kentucky Oaks without any hiccups.

“I always worry about hiccups but that is part of this exhilarating sport.”

Songbird kicked off her 2016 campaign with a dominant 6.5 lengths win in the Las Virgenes on February 6.

Last season included three G1 wins in the Del Mar Debutante, Chandelier Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.

Meanwhile early Kentucky Derby favourite Mohaymen will take on a field of five other sophomores in the $400,000 G2 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Saturday with trainer Kiaran McLaughlin admitting it’s the toughest field the three-time G2 winner has faced.

"It's a tough race but I wouldn't trade places with anybody," McLaughlin said.

“We just hope we keep going and stay the same.”

Mohaymen romped away with the Holy Bull Stakes on his 3YO debut in January and the only returning challenger from that race is third-place finisher Fellowship, who was six lengths back.

The fresh faces entered appear formidable with the most significant threat likely to be undefeated Awesome Banner, a stablemate of Fellowship trained by Stanley Gold.

Awesome Banner already has two graded wins this year at Gulfstream in the G3 Hutcheson Stakes and the G2 Swale Stakes but the 1 1/16-mile Fountain of Youth will be his first try around two turns.

"He hasn't been asked and he's got something left. I don't see any reason he can't go further," Gold said.

“He has a pretty high cruising speed and he always seems to have another gear left."

The other undefeated colt entered is the lightly raced Zulu out of the Todd Pletcher barn.

The son of Bernardini won his debut at Gulfstream in December then crushed an allowance/optional claiming field by 7 1/4 lengths on January 15.

"We felt like it was in his best interests to stay on a track that he's two-for-two on and find out where he fits with the big boys," Pletcher said.

"We think he's a very talented colt. We've been pleased with what he's done so far and with how he's trained since the allowance win. We'll find out a lot more Saturday."

Multiple stakes winner Awesome Speed is also entered for the Fountain of Youth of three-race winning streak which includes the James F. Lewis and the Mucho Macho Man stakes.

Stakes-placed Golden Ray, ninth last time out Feb. 15 in the Starter Stakes at Gulfstream, completes the field.
