2016 Preaklness Stakes - Nyquist Draws Gate Three

Undefeated Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist has drawn gate three for Saturday’s Preakness as he bids to keep alive his hopes of a Triple Crown sweep.

He is a long odds on favourite over 10 rivals that includes Kentucky Derby runner-up and Santa Anita Derby victor Exaggerator.

Exaggerator will break from gate five.

Stradivari, third choice in the early betting, steps up to the big leagues off an impressive allowance win.

He is aiming to provide seven-time Eclipse winning trainer Todd Pletcher and Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez with their first Preakness win but has drawn the outside gate in the field of 11.

Bob Baffert, winner of last year’s Preakness with Triple Crown winner American Pharaoh, wil start Lexington Stakes winner Collected.

He is next in the betting from gate seven.

Nyquist and Exaggerator had strong morning gallops on Tuesday at Pimlico, finishing their work before rain moved into the area.

“We got to get on a nice track and no one got wet,” said Doug O’Neill, Nyquist’s trainer.
