A share of the champion’s prizemoney will go to The V Foundation, one of America’s leading cancer research funding organizations under an agreement with his majority owners Perry and Denise Martin and Taylor Made Stallions.

California Chrome’s program is currently pointed towards the $200,000 San Diego Handicap on July 23 and the $1 million Pacific Classic on August 20, both at Del Mar in California.

In addition to a portion of California Chrome’s future race earnings supporting The V Foundation, the California Chrome team will also hold other special events to raise charitable donations for charity.

The first such event will be following the San Diego Handicap where California Chrome’s blinkers, jockey Victor Espinoza’s silks and a co-branded saddle blanket worn during the horse’s final workout at Del Mar where all the proceeds will be donated to The V Foundation.

North America’s all-time leading money-winner is also expected to race in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita in November and the newly announced $12 million Pegasus World Cup in January at Gulfstream Park in Florida.

The V Foundation is named for the late Jim Valvano, a legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator and funds research into all types of cancer at institutions across the country.

Since its inception in 1993, The V Foundation has awarded more than $150 million in cancer research grants for cutting-edge cancer research projects vetted by a Scientific Advisory Committee.

The V Foundation proudly awards 100 percent of direct donations to cancer research and related programs.
