Breeders Cup Classic Field Taking Shape

The Breeders Cup Classic field is taking shape with Keen Ice joining the list of confirmed starters after pleasing trainer Todd Pletcher in his work at Belmont Park in New York.

He is scheduled to have one more breeze at Belmont on Sunday before shipping to Santa Anita on November 1.

Keen Ice defeated Triple Crown champion American Pharoah and Godolphin star Frosted in last year's G1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga when he was trained by Dale Romans.

He joined Pletcher's stable in April and finished third in an allowance/optional claiming race at Belmont on October 7.

The Breeders' Cup Classic is the confirmed objective for Frosted, setting up another intriguing clash with racetrack legend California Chrome.

Another Breeders Cup option looked at was the Dirt Mile considering Frosted's stunning victory by 14 lengths in the G1 Met Mile at Belmont in the summer.

However trainer Kieran McLaughlin made it clear that Frosted would be entered for only the Classic, over a mile and a quarter.

"The team have chosen the Classic, which will suit Frosted. As long as he breaks decently, he will run well,” McLaughlin said.

"Frosted's energy levels are high at present. He is a really happy horse, he feels great in himself.”

He shipped to Santa Anita last weekend and is scheduled to have his final serious workout on Friday.
