Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist will be forced to miss next Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita after suffering an ankle injury in a track gallop.

“Though Nyquist is 100% sound and X-rays are clean, the timing unfortunately precludes us from the dream of having him run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic in our own backyard,” said trainer Doug O’Neill.

Further plans for the 2015 champion juvenile, who was most recently sixth in the G2 Pennsylvania Derby, have not yet been announced.

Darley acquired Nyquist’s breeding rights last November.
