Third time lucky proved to be the case for Village King.

He had run in this race twice previously collecting two third placings but on Sunday it proved to be his day and a fitting way to finish his racing career.

Trained by the Etchechorys and given a very cool ride by Martin Valle, the jockey waited patiently in third spot before starting a run for home at the 1000m and managing to go further and further ahead of the field to finish winning by 9 lengths over the 2400m trip on the turf.

Miriñaque took the second money by ¾ length from early leader Sandino Ruler but the day belonged to Village King.
