The first two Gr1 races possibly led us into a state of false security.

As by the time it came to the King George all that was about to be obliterated!  Minella Indo and Frodon had run there races and it was left to Saint Calvados who had been in the distant rear at one stage and making all sorts of mistakes to suddenly pick himself up and go into the lead but that just meant that Clan des Obeaux was sitting there waiting to pounce when wham! Bang! Up came to Mullins runners to upset the apple cart.  Unfortunately one of them Asterion Forlange fell at the last and that left the coast clear for Tornado Flyer to claim un unexpected victory.

Clan des Obeaux stayed on for second although 9 lengths from the winner and our hero Saint Calvados, 25/1, was a worthy third.

The earlier two Gr 1s went as expected to Eptante in the  Hurdle and Bravemansgame in the Novices' Chase.  Both were odds-on favourites.
