Other horses have won it four times but not in consecutive years. Jockey Patrick Mullins said he wasn't quite as smooth as in previous \years but he still managed to hold out the much younger Zanahiyer and win by a neck. No doubt about it he loves the track and this time of year – maybe he is channeling Santa with his generous gift of the win? For the record Saint Roi was 4 ¼ l back in third and then a further 10l to Echoes in Rain. Sharjah will probably now go straight to Cheltenham.
The Hurdle wen to Gordon Elliot but not in the expected order as Fury Road 7/1 took out the race by 8 lengths from favourite Run Wild Fred. Vanillier a further 10 back in third.
