American racing off the track

There is more of interest happening in various courts and tribunals than there is on course this week.

In New York with the ongoing saga of the 2020 indictments Judge Mary Key Vyskocil has handed down another sentence this time to Jordan Fishman who was the chemist who made up many of the drugs supplied to Seth Fishman, apparently no relation.  He got a 15 months jail term.

Meantime the hearing on Medina Spirit's Kentucky Derby positive test has been postponed for a week.

In California Jerry Hollendorfer's case against the Stronach Group Entities for banning him from Santa Anita and Del Mar has been postponed until 14 March.

There was a very disturbing article in the Times Union where a journalist has been tracking the drug testing capabilities of the NY Equine Lab in particular.  Basically the lab has admitted they are up against it as they are underfunded and the drug cheats can stay a step ahead of them without too many problems.  An example is that they can only test for 3 EPOs where there are over 70 out there.   The big bust of the trainers and vets that came out in New York in 2020 was due to the FBI rather than drug testing.
