White Turf at St Moritz

This is the third and final weekend of the famous "White Turf" races which are run over a frozen lake.

There are gallops, trots and skijoring races which if you haven't seen is well worth catching.  Jockeys are on skis and towed along behind the horses with a type of sail-like thing instead of a whip!

There has been a problem with the ice melting in places and the first weekend's races were all shortened to 800m.  The second weekend went ahead as usual and this weekend seems OK so far. English raider Mordred from Milton Harris's Middleham Park Racing got top Swiss rider (although she's based in Germany) Sybille Vogt to take the ride and they won the main race on both Sundays. Now they are heading for the Longine's sponsored Grosser Preis von Saint Moritz.

There are 25 horses entered following the supplement stage and it will remain to be seen how many actually line up.
