Gran Premio Latino Americano 2022

This year's edition will be run in Santiago de Chile in the Hipodromo de Chile.

The race is G1, worth US$360,000 and is open to runners from the various jurisdictions in Latin America and to other runners by invitation, but it is difficult to get other runners from outside South America to come because of Quarantine regulations.  It takes place at a different venue each year – last year it was Maroñas in Uruguay and next year it will be at San Isidro in Buenos Aires.

This year the crowd won't be at 100% because of Covid but the latest word says that 75% should be able to attend.

There are 14 horses entered and as usual it is very difficult to get past the local runners who have a good knowledge of there tracks.  It is on dirt.

So the two with the most likely chance are the veteran Chileno Win Here and the younger compatriot O'Conner.

Uruguay  sends Two including Atlético El Culano who ran second to Aero Trem last year, and their trained and Aero Trem were recently in Dubai.

Super Nao from Argentina has looked good at trackwork but translating that into the race is another matter.  Storefront's connections won the race with Roman Rosso in 2018.

There is generally a great atmosphere at the racecourse on any day and especially on the GP day, with the big race being sponsored by Longines and the winner getting access into a race at Royal Ascot should they be able and willing to travel that far.
