Vale Midnight Bourbon

Unbelievable that less than a month ago we were watching him on the track at Meydan.

Midnight Bourbon, a lovely and talented racehorse, collapsed with "an acute gastrointestinal situation" after working over 1000m at Churchill Downs on Sunday, and died shortly after.

His last start was in the Dubai World Cup where he ran fifth, and prior to that was third in the Saudi Cup.  He didn't have a lot of wins to his name but was generally in the finish in. his races.

It was obvious in Dubai that his team adored him, and trainer Steve Asmussen described the event as "beyond sad".  "A lot of people loved this horse, and rightfully so" the trainer added.

The relevant vet departments are looking into the situation but as he was only recently back from Dubai one wonders if there was a change in his feed that could have contributed to  the problem.

Meanwhile racing continues at Oaklawn Park with the Apple Blossom Gr 1 and the Oaklawn Handicap Gr 2.

In the former which is over 1700m for f&m Ce Ce is on 2/1 for Mike McCarthy and Victor Espinoza, and Letruska 7/5 for Gutierrez and J-L Ortiz.

The Handicap is over 1800m and has 8 starters with Fearless on 9/5 for Pletcher and J-L Ortiz and Plainsman 5/2 for Brad Cox and Joel Rosario.
