NHK Mile Starts the G1 run

There is a G! every Sunday leading up to the Tokyo Yushun or Derby in 4 weeks time.

Today's Race 11 in Tokyo is for the 3yos and is a good lead up to the Derby.

Serifos, by Daiwa Major, is having his first race as aa 3yo after a stellar 2yo year in which he won 3 and finished 2nd in the 4th.  He's on 4.4 in the Morning Line but we prefer Industria who is by Leontes and will be ridden by Damian Lane – he's on 4.6 but those numbers could change come start time.  Danon Scorpion is by Lord Kanaloa and looks promising and has won 3 of his 5 starts to date.  Kawada has the ride and they are on 8.6.

Jean Gros by American sire More Than Ready is on 9.9 and recently won the G2 NZ Trophy at Nakayama and he's on 9.9 with Matenro Orion whom he beat in that race on 5.9 – he's had two wins and two seconds.

There are 4 fillies in the race and they have a weight advantage but they haven't made it into the short list but as we saw in the Kentucky Derby anything can happen!

No luck for Japan today in the Kentucky Derby where Crown Pride jumped well but the horse he beat in the UAE Derby Summer Is Tomorrow set off at a suicidal pace and Crown Pride was stuck in second and clearly and not surprisingly ran out of gas around the home turn.  We hope that he's pulled up OK and goes on to the Preakness – with a sensible pace he should have a better chance.
