Ask anyone in England where Lester rode his last two winners and they may guess one but certainly not two.

In 1995 Lester came to Australia and rode Zadok in the lead-up to the Black Opal and then decided to return to Canberra and then rode his penultimate winner in the Black Opal Stakes.

Some people may know that but few would know that later that month he rode at Albury and won a quality handicap on a horse called Lagisquet at Albury in a Quality Allowance race.

Canberra may be a small dot in the world racing map and Albury an even smaller one but to see the great man ride on your locall track was a huge thrill.
