State of Rest back to defend Cox Plate?

After his great win in the St James's Palace Stakes Irish raider State of Rest could be on track to defend his Cox Plate title.

With a wonderful ride from Shane Cross, the Joseph O'Brien trained runner gave his trainer and jockey first Royal Ascot wins.  They led the whole way, not the horse's normal pattern of racing, and nobody could catch them although favourite Bay Bridge tried very hard.

Shahryar was disappointing and was just nudged out of third place by French raider Grand Glory 16/1.

Earlier in the Queen Mary for the 2yo fillies Karl Burke's hype about Dramatised was shown to be right on with a good win over MaylandSea 28/1 and Maria Branwell third.  Love Reigns did very well to get fourth as the travel etc made it a big ask for the American 2yo.

The Queen's Vase went to favourite Eldan Eldarov keeping his unbeaten record intact.  David Egan rode for Roger Varian. Only just though as it was a tight photo with the Meades' runner Zechariah only a nose away in second with Colin Keane riding the 20/1 roughie.  Third went to Godolphin's "second" choice Hafit who started on 5/1 for Appleby-Doyle while their "first" Nahanni did not do any better than he had in the Derby.  The Irish raider Anchorage was another who was underwhelming.

There was a very popular win in the Duke of Cambridge when Jane Chapple-Hyam's lovely filly Saffron Beach won easily despite her penalty earned last year in the Sun Chariot.  With Willliam Buick back in the irons she had no problems in beating Thundering Beauty 40/1 and Primo Bacio 14/1, with a good run from the German filly Novemba – Sybilla Vogt riding for Peter Schiergen.  Can we claim this as another Aussie win?
