And a disappointment at Deauville

Artorius will now head back home after an unimpressive run in the Maurice de Gheest at Deauville on Sunday.  He dwelt at the start and then pulled hard through the early stages of the race and virtually put himself out of contention.  The victory went to the roughie Highfield Princess for John Quinn and Jason Hart on 16/1.  Minzaal was second on 12/1 for Owen Burrows and Jim Crowley with Garrus third.  Naval Crown had started favourite but faded in the late part of the race to finish 5th.

Earlier at Deauville our tip Botanik won the Prix Reux by ¼ length to favourite Glycon with Iresene 3 lengths back in third.

Better luck for the Aussies at Dusseldorf when Toskana Belle under Kerrin McEvoy won the German Oaks.  Not sure if they would want her to have another race in Europe or they will ship her now to Australia.  She defeated Wagnis by a head and there was ¾ length back to Mylady 10/1.  The fancied Toy never featured.

Also at Deauville Peter Schiergen trained the quinella in the Fritz Henkel G3 with Sahib's Joy beating stablemate Calif by 1 ¼ lengths with Dapango a neck away third and fav Best Lightning 4th.
