A Royal Doncaster

Saturday's racegoers included the King and Queen.

They came to see their horse Desert Hero run an honest third (after all he is Charles the Third) in the St Leger.  The race itself went to the hot favourite Continuous who may now go to the Arc.  Arrest was the second home but could not catch the winner who won by 2 ¼ lengths.

Also on Saturday's card Iberian easily won the Champagne Stakes as favourite Rosallion found the ground heavy going and could not pick up.

And the Park Stakes saw Sandrine win on 11/2 for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy ahead of Audience and Spycatcher third.

Going back to Friday's results and we are happy to report that Big Evs did the right thing and won the Flying Childres from Flora of Bermuda 5/1 and Rosario 33/1.  Inquisitively and Toca Madera were non-runners.

The Doncaster Cup saw Trueshan back to top form following wind surgery and win by 1 ¼ lengths from Sweet William 3/1 with our beloved Broome third home in the field of 5.

And on Sunday the final day of the meet Matilda Picotte showed the field her back view for most of the Sceptre Stakes finishing up with a comfortable win.  Nigiri (which the name of a Japanese snack and very apt since the race was sponsored by the JRA) was second by 3 ¾ lengths with Vetiver 16/1 third. (Vetiver is used in perfumes and is easy to pronounce – and write – than its botanical name Chrysopogon Zizanoides).
