Champions Day 2023

The racing did go ahead but on the inner or hurdle course and the going there was soft.

The afternoon started off in great form as there was a battle royal down the straight between Trawlerman the eventual winner with Frankie Dettori on board and favourite

Kyprios with Ryan Moore in the saddle.  On the line Trawlerman put in an extra lunge and just got the verdict by a neck.  Sweet William was 13 lengths away in third which shows how strong the first two home were.

The Sprint was a huge upset as it went to Art Power who started at 40/1!  Favourite Kinross was second and one of our selections Spycatcher ran thid.

More surprises in the f&m 2400m where Poptronic 22/1 got the verdict from Bluestocking 6/1 with Jackie Oh third.

The QEII saw the French raiders take out the quinella with Christopher Head's Big Rock 5/1 win from Facteur Cheval and Tahiyra third.  The big disappointment was Paddington whom his trainer said was over-excited and didn't settle so the question is now does he go to the Breeders' Cup or straight to the stallion shed?

The Champion Stakes saw a dream ending (supposedly) to his English career for Frankie Dettori when King of Steel just squeezed out Via Sistina  for the G! win and the double for the day to Dettori with French raider Horizon Dore third.
