People can of course be extended to include animals and in particular horses. 

However there are a couple of names out there whose perform Is Equinox  a GOAT?

However there are a couple of names out there whose performances would have to be surpassed in order for Equinox to gain the crown, and that would require him to be kept in training as a 5yo.

The two names that come forward as GOATs are Frankel and Deep Impact.  Frankel was unbeaten in 14 starts and won 10 G1s, gaining him the highest Racing Post rating of all time. He was by Galileo and  a grandson of Danehill on his dam's side.

Deep Impact also had 14 starts and was the only blemish on his record came in the Arc when he was not well and unsuited to the conditions. He won 7 G1s in his 12 wins.

It isn't just the wins it is also the way they won their races, and having been fortunate to see all three race it has been the way they have anihilated the opposition that has been so impressive.

Equinox did this on Sunday winning by a soft 4 lengths over Liberty Island, a very talented filly who had a 4kgs weight advantage. She had won the fillies' triple crown this year.  He's by Kitasan Black whose sire was Black Tide by Sunday Silence and those who saw Sunday Silence race claim that Equinox reminds them of that amazing horse.

The future plans for Equinox have not yet been revealed but whatever they are they are likely to spur much debate regarding GOATs.
