Take produced a vintage ride on De Deuce to get him to relax mid race and then slice through the field in the home straight and while Stars on Earth tried hard to catch him he was unable to do so.

As usual at Nakayama there was a huge crowd on the track and of course a huge crowd watching on TV as this is the biggest betting race in the world.  The turnover for the race was

54,579,834,000 Yen which equates to Au $529,663,706.12.  And that's just the JRA handle.

Titleholder led them a merry dance and at one stage was 7 lengths in front of the strung out field but could not survive the final swoop by both Do Deuce and Stars on Earth however he held out Justin Palace for third money (which was not to be sneezed at as this is the race with the second most prize money – the Japan Cup being the No. 1.

Earlier in the afternoon Win Marvel had defeated Grenadier Guards and Aguri to win the G2 Hanshin Cup.
