Girl Power

Not only did she beat the boys in her race she became the first filly to win the Hopeful.

And she did it in race record time – Regaleira, a filly by Suave Richard, showed a brilliant turn of foot in overtaking Shin Emperor to win the last G1 for 2023.

Under Christophe Lemaire she was not the fastest out of the gates and eventually settled near the end of the field but when Lemaire moved her out she started to show her best and finished the race beautifully.

Not that it was a bad run from Shin Emperor – Murzabayev had him in an ideal position throughout the run but he lacked the winner's turn off foot.

A surprise third was Sunrise Zipangu who started at 128.7.  He was making a late charge for the line but go outgunned by the winner.  Fourth went to Hollie Doyle's mount Admiral Ship, by Gold Ship on 69.2 and fifth a Duramente colt Mr G T on 15.1, Unfortunately Tom Marquand's mount Tariff Line suffered "a fracture" which does not sound good although we are never officially told of these things.
