Japanese Horse of the Year for 2023 and corresponding awards

No surprises in the Horse of the Year and best older horse/colt – Equinox – virtually unanimous except for the 2 votes for Liberty Island.

Liberty Island however topped the 3yo fillies category with the 3yo colt going to Tastieri.

The 2yo colt went to Jantar Mantar who won the Asahi Hai Futurity G1 and the filly going to Ascoli Piceno.

The older mare went to Songline and the older horse was of course Equinox.

The Sprinter was Mama Cocha, the Dirt Lemon Pop and the Steeplechase Meiner Grand.  There was a Special Award for Ushba Tesoro who won the Dubai World Cup.

The trainer with the most wins was Haruki Sugiyama, and the one who won the most money was Yoshito Yahagi.

And the winning jockey was Chrisotphe Lemaire.
