Trial Watch – Rosehill, October 20

Horses to follow from the Rosehill barrier trials on Tuesday, October 20.

Almighty Crown (Trial 2): Chris Waller’s unraced three-year-old looks to be improving with maturity, catching the eye with a fast-finishing win in his maiden trial over 1030m. Eased back after the jump by Brenton Avdulla, the Street Cry gelding settled last but urged forward before the turn he wound up strongly in the straight under hands and heels to quickly reel in the front runners and draw clear to win eased down by two-and-a-half lengths in a time of 1:03.4. Almighty Crown wasn’t sighted in three trials as a juvenile but looks to have retrained I much better order having been runner up in his previous hitout earlier this month. He may be ready to go the races now so is one to watch on debut.

Cosmic Engine (Trial 3): A fresh win could be on the cards for the Waller-trained gelding after he was given an easy hitout in an open 900m trial. Slightly slow into stride, the four-year-old camped misfiled before working home under his own steam for a 1.3 length second to Show ‘Em in a time of 54.5. Cosmic Engine hasn’t raced since July and won his first two runs of last preparation off a single trial so could be placed to advantage in the coming weeks.

Sprightly Lass (Trial 4): Patience may be set to pay off for the Team Hawkes mare. The four-year-old has raced only once when winning at Hawkesbury as a raging favourite in July. She was slow into stride but quickly mustered speed top lead the 900m trial clearly. Allowed to cruise along in the lad, she was never reall asked for an effort by opened up a gap on her rivals in the straight to score by 3.3 lengths in a slick time of 52.8, close a second faster than the next best trial. The daughter of Snitzel is a full sister to stakes winner Le Cordon Bleu and looks to have the scope to go through her grades.
