Eye Catchers At Rosehill Trials

A number of encouraging trials were produced at Rosehill on Tuesday as stables prepare for the upcoming autumn carnival.

Commencing at 8.15am, 18 trial heats were conducted at Rosehill on Tuesday morning.

Six open trials for the older horses were conducted through the morning which included a number of Group 1 winning gallopers.

Boban took out a 900m Open heat by 1.3 lengths over El Sasso with I Can Rock third.

Ridden by Glyn Schofield, Boban was settled midfield on the fence.

He crept up around the home turn and once able to get a split between runners approaching the 200m, let down well for a soft win in a time of 53.40 seconds.

It was Boban’s second official public appearance of his latest campaign having trialled over 800m at Warwick Farm on January 8.

Not seen since a highly encouraging debut, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Caped Crusader made all for a three-quarter length success over Group 1 winning stablemate Cosmic Endeavour in a time of 1:01.40.

Slow out of the barriers, the son of O’Reilly was quickly urged into stride by jockey Paul King and over the final stages held off Cosmic Endeavour under soft hands and heels riding.

The Chris Waller-trained Beaten Up ran third in the trial as he looks to return off a near 18 month injury enforced hiatus.

Waller sent out a number of his well performed gallopers including Foreteller, Opinion and Weary plus up and coming types such as Law, Quick Strike and Thousand Guineas winner Amicus.

John O’Shea sent a number of his talented two and three-year-olds out with Sweynesse running fourth in a 900m heat for three-year-old colts and geldings.

Stablemate Hauraki produced an encouraging third in an Open trial behind the likes of Mineko and Weary.

Already boasting a strong arsenal of two-year-olds, John O’Shea sent another six around across the four heats conducted on Tuesday morning.

The next set of metropolitan trials are scheduled for Warwick Farm on January 27.

12 heats are scheduled for the morning.
