Go Indy Go Half-Brother On Debut At Gawler

The debut of a half brother to a Group 1 winner creates strong interest at tomorrow’s one-off metropolitan race meeting at Gawler.

Prepared by Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas, Battle Brewing kicks-off his career in the $40,000 Wolf Blass Handicap (1100m) for two-year-olds — and is eligible for a SABOIS bonus of $20,000.

By Medaglia D’oro, the colt is a half-brother to the high-class Go Indy Go, and Essay Raider, both trained by Macdonald & Gluyas.

Last autumn — as a two-year-old — Go Indy Go won the $115,400 Sires' Produce (G3) over 1400m at Morphettville, and then came from last to take out the $405,000 Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes (G1) over 1600m at Randwick.

Also in the autumn, Essay Raider saluted in the D C McKay Stakes $115,380 (G3) over 1100m at Morphettville— and returned to winning form last Saturday in a Morphettville Flying.

Co-trainer Leon Macdonald says Battle Brewing “is a nice horse, probably suited over more ground."

When asked by Racing and Sports about his prospects, he paused…

“Well, put it this way… it wouldn’t surprise me if he won, but I wouldn’t like to say he could win. I can’t put it any better than that.”

Out of interest, Go Indy Go commenced her career with a solid second placing in the Listed Cinderella Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville — and looked in need of more ground.

Essay Raider easily won a 1000m Morphettville BM75 on debut, defeating just five runners.

In Race 6 at Gawler, Macdonald & Gluyas saddle up Pepper The Pin and he appeals as the one to beat.

“He’s also a nice horse and has improved off his first up third over 1000m,” Macdonald says.

“He is much better suited over the 1200m — and is a very good chance.”

The Hall Of Fame trainer says punters can bet with confidence at Gawler.

“Morphettville Parks has had an enormous amount of racing and Gawler is an excellent race-track.

“You get sick of going to the same venue every week of the year — and in my case — every day of the year,” the Morphettville-based Macdonald chuckled.

“I don’t think there should be regular Saturday racing at Gawler — you know, like once a month or anything — but it’s an ideal venue for a stand-alone.

“I’d like to see them run — on the same day — a Gawler Guineas perhaps, as a lead-up to the Adelaide Guineas — along with, say, the Gawler Cup and another race with big prize-money.

“I think that would be really good.”
