James Cummings will look to improve Ruling Dynasty’s chances of gaining a Melbourne Cup berth at Randwick on Saturday.
The lightly-raced four-year-old is one of 17 entries for the Listed City Tattersall’s Club Cup over 2400 metres.
The Cummings stable has used the race as a stepping stone to the Melbourne Cup in the past at Ruling Dynasty holds an entry for the great race this year.
Ruling Dynasty disappointed last start when beaten more than seven lengths in the Craven Plate (2000m) last start but had previously won over 1600 metres at Randwick.
Ruling Dynasty’s only attempt at 2400 metres was when sixth in the ATC Australian Derby last April, a race that is proving good form reference with winner Mongolian Khan and runner-up Hauraki both high in betting markets for Saturday’s Caulfield Cup while Preferment is already a Group 1 winner this spring.
Other Melbourne Cup entrants nominated for the City Tattersall’s Club Cup include Metropolitan runner-up Beaten Up, The Offer, La Amistad, Opinion and Astronomos.
David Hayes and Tom Dabernig have also nominated two of their Melbourne Cup entries, Dibayani and Bold Sniper.
