Golden Slipper Rides For Regan Bayliss and Ryan Moore

Young Melbourne jockey Regan Bayliss, fresh from the first Group One of his career at Flemington last Saturday, has landed a Golden Slipper Stakes mount for the Lindsay Park stable at Rosehill on Saturday.

Bayliss will take the Slipper ride on the Sheikh Hamdan-owned filly Madeenaty, giving him rides in at least two of the five Group One races on Saturday’s mega rich Rosehill program.

Bayliss won Saturday’s $1.25 million Newmarket at Flemington for Lindsay Park on the imported sprinter Redkirk Warrior, cementing his position with the stable.

Bayliss was already booked to ride Faatinah, also owned by Sheikh Hamdan, in Saturday’s $700,000 Galaxy (1100m) before the Lindsay Park stable decided to reward him with the ride on Madeenaty in the $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper (1200m).

David Hayes, who trains Madeenaty in partnership with his son Ben and Tom Dabernig, confirmed Bayliss’ booking for the filly after contacting Sheikh Hamdan’s racing manager Angus Gold.

Blue Diamond Stakes winner Catchy will also run for Lindsay Park in the Slipper with Craig Williams as her rider. The stable will also accept with Blue Diamond third Formality and Tulip backing up from last Saturday’s Magic Night Stakes win.

Coolmore Stud owns Tulip and Formality and have arranged for their retained UK rider Ryan Moore to fly in for the ride on one of the fillies.

Moore, the leading rider of Group 1 winners in the world over the past three years, has had one previous Golden Slipper ride when unplaced on Odyssey Moon two years ago.

Kerrin McEvoy rode Tulip in the Magic Night Stakes but may switch to a Slipper ride for Gerald Ryan, depending on how many of his youngsters make the field.

Ryan’s Black Opal Stakes winner Trapeze Artist is expected to be a late entry fee at a cost of $150,000 before Monday’s 11am deadline. Ryan also has Menari and Chauffeur on the cusp of making the final field of 16 plus two emergencies.

Peter and Paul Snowden are yet to resolve their runners from their strong list of Gunnison, Pariah, Invader and Khan. All four are assured of spots if they accept.

The James Cummings-trained filly Exceeds won’t be a Slipper acceptor, improving the chances of Chauffeur making the field as at least an emergency.

Both Michael Freedman and the Godolphin stable will be double handed in the Slipper with two runners each.

Freedman will start Teaspoon and Frolic.

Visiting UK jockey William Buick will choose between the Godolphin pair Trekking and Veranillo after he rides both colts in track gallops on Tuesday morning.

Buick has first choice with Brenton Avdulla ride their other colt.

Skyline Stakes winner Diamond Tathagata got his first look at Rosehill on Saturday morning when he travelled from Mark Newnham’s Warwick Farm stable for a track gallop with his Slipper jockey Glyn Schofield aboard.
