Clipperton, firmly established among the leading riders in Hong Kong since his move from Sydney, landed a double at Sha Tin last Sunday but later was hit with a two-meeting suspension and $HK15,000 fine.

He surprised local media when elected to defer the suspension and will miss meetings on October 18 and 22, a decision that will see him relinquish the first-up ride on former Hong Kong Horse of the Year Werther in the Sha Tin Trophy on October 22.

“It was either miss that or miss something else,” Clipperton said. “I had to weigh that against other rides I have coming up.”

Clipperton is flying to Sydney on Friday for the Group One ride on Dissolution in the Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

It will be the first time Clipperton has ridden in Sydney since April.

He has four rides on Saturday’s program with Dissolution’s trainers John, Michael and Wayne Hawkes also booking him for Chauffeur in the Roman Consul Stakes and Firsthand in the Metropolitan Civil Contractors Handicap.

Peter and Paul Snowden have also booked Clipperton for Molten in the BRMM Handicap.
