Queenslanders Heading South For The Villiers

Classy Queenslander Crack Me Up remains on track to start in Saturday’s $250,000 Villiers Stakes at Randwick despite finishing only fourth at Doomben in his final lead-up last Saturday.

Trainer Liam Birchley confirmed that he is pressing ahead with his Villiers plans for Crack Me Up after the 4YO finished fourth in the Listed Brisbane Handicap (1600m) won by Cantbuybetter.

Crack Me Up was having only his second run back from a spell after winning the Listed Recognition Stakes (1350m) first-up on November 25.

Birchley has booked Jason Collett to ride Crack Me Up, who won the G3 Sunshine Coast Guineas in July before a spell.

Melbourne jockey Ben Melham will replace Collett as the rider of last start Festival Stakes winner [n[Testshadow[/n] in the Villiers.

Melham combined with Testashadow’s trainer Gary Portelli to win the Golden Slipper Stakes with She Will Reign last season.

The Robert Heathcote-trained Hopfgarten is also heading to Sydney for the Villiers after finishing second in the Brisbane Handicap.

Tye Angland will continue his association with the exciting Godolphin entry Interlocuter in the Villiers.

Angland has ridden Interlocuter at his past seven starts including win at his last three outings but handed over to Corey Brown when the import finished third in barrier trial over 1030m at Rosehill last Friday.
