Weather Dictates Plans For Nurse Kitchen

The weather will determine if enigmatic mare Nurse Kitchen stays home or heads to Queensland this week in a bid to recapture winning form.

She will contest either the $125,000 Listed Winter Cup (2400m) at Rosehill or the $175,000 Caloundra Cup (2400m) at the Sunshine Coast.

“Wherever it’s wet, that’s where she will go,” said Newcastle trainer Kris Lees.

“I’m sure she is looking for soft ground, and I’ll probably put blinkers on her.”

Nurse Kitchen has been a tease since joining the Lees stable, seemikngly showing little interest in racing in the first half of her races but warming to her task late to make ground in the last 400m.

She was again lacklustre for much of her most recent start over 2000m at Rosehill on June 16 when seventh to Black On Gold but again started to put in when the race was virtually over.

Nurse Kitchen, a G1 placegetter in the Vinery Stud Stakes as a 3YO, has had three starts for Lees over 1400m, 1600m and 2000m since resuming in May.

Lees has the same Winter Cup/Caloundra Cup options on Saturday with stablemate Doukhan, who will be coming back in distance from his last start second in the Stayers Cup over 3200m at Randwick on June 2 won by Plot Twist.
