TRIAL WATCH REPORT

Noted trial horses engaged on December 12

WYONG WEDNESDAY: Witherspoon (R1); Lancaster Bomber (R1); Hostwin Saturn (R1); Commander’s Watch (R2); Nindamos (R3); Unite And Conquer (R6); Exceed The Stars (R6); Jailbreak (R6).

WITHERSPOON (Wyong December 3): The best of the open trial winners was this Brad Widdup-trained flier, who showed her usual natural speed to record the fastest 845m heat win (50.08; 33.28). She led with ease and coasted over the last 200m to beat the well-performed Arbeitsam by almost four lengths.

NINDAMOS (Canterbury November 13): Watch for the unraced Exceed And Excel colt when he is produced by Godolphin after he took the eye with a strong fourth in his first trial. Followed up with an equally good second trial effort at Hawkesbury on November 26 when he worked to the line with plenty to offer.

UNITE AND CONQUER (Randwick November 27): Back home from his Impressive Flemington debut win in October and again looked the part to travel easily in the fastest 2YO heat (43.70), sitting a length off the leader to the 400m before extending under little pressure and sprinting strongly to the line 3.3 lengths clear of the chasers. He’ll be a player in the good 2YO races.

EXCEED THE STARS (Wyong December 3): Mark Newnham-trained youngster was only sixth when fancied to win the Breeders Plate on debut in September after two early trial wins. This effort to run home under a big hold for third behind Howra was excellent after he came out a clear last, settling five lengths of the winner at the 600m before closing quickly three wide between the 400m and 200m. From there he ran to the line strongly under no pressure. Be assured he’s got ability.

TRIAL WATCH REVIEW

HAWKESBURY December 7

Good 4; Inside Grass (No Sectional Times)

15 Heats – Heats 1-2 1250m (2 Open); Heats 3-9 1000m (2 Open; 1 2YO; 4 Maiden); Heats 10-15 760m (3 2YO; 1 Open; 2 Maiden)

The good mares PUMPKIN PIE and SEASONS stood out in their 1000m heat. Now with Richard Freedman and having her second trial under his care PUMPKIN PIE did all that was required to win, sitting outside the leader and getting the better of her rivals when the sprint went on in the last 100m. The time (60.96) was slow compared to the standard of the day but she looks well prepared to perform fresh.

Behind her the standout was the very progressive SEASONS, who settled two lengths back in fourth before surging in the last 80 metres to be beaten three quarters of a length with Tim Clark content to sit quietly as she ran through the line in great style. This was a tick over trial for this mare after her last start Rosehill win and showed that she is in the right form to win again.

The pick of the 1000m maiden trials came from DUNBRODY POWER, who was previously noted in a Randwick trial on November 27. She impressed by the way she sprinted home in great style from the rear to win her fillies heat under a quiet ride from Rachel King in 60.69.

The quickest 1000m heat (59.32) was won by the newcomer WHATEVER YOU WANT, who showed good pace and quick response to put several lengths on his rivals between the 500m and 300m before having an easy time over the last 200m. Behind him BAD BOY FOR LOVE impressed as a coming winner with the way he made up ground late for third.

In the 760m heats for the 2YOs the unraced PERSEPOLIS made an impression with the way she peeled off the back of the leader at the 300m and extended like a good horse to spear away for a soft win in 45.53. TANG TREASURE was all pace winning the quickest of the 2YO heats (44.73) but the one to impress in this trial was the eye catching third by HIGHTAIL, a member of the Snowden team who looks to have come on well since his first trial in September.

The quickest 760m heat was won by PARTNERS (44.70), who opened up a big lead between the 500m and 300m when travelling strongly on the bit before his margin was cut back considerably by an impressive last 200m drive from DISSOLUTE. The latter is race fit and ready to win in his right grade.

The second placing by I’M A LEGEND in his maiden heat over 760m indicated he won’t be long off a win for his new trainer Matthew Vella.

NOTED TRIALS: Coonawarra; Pumpkin Pie; Seasons; Carluca; Enforcement; Dunbrody Power; Dame Margot; Whatever You Want; Bad Boy For Love; In The Zone; Persepolis; Miraculous; Hightail; Partners; Dissolute; I’m A Legend.
