The Inevitable back to his best to take Conquering

In Brief

  • Star galloper The Inevitable returns to his best to win Conquering.
  • Tasmania Stakes next test for pint-sized gelding.
  • And Beyond proves he is up to weight-for-age racing.

The Scott Brunton-trained pint-sized gelding settled last in the field of eight but when rider Siggy Carr hit the go button, the gelded son of Dundeel unleashed a scintillating turn of foot that left his rivals in his wake on the way to a decisive win over And Beyond and Dark Wanderer.

It's been a long wait for the gelding's owners to see the pint-sized gelding show the form that won him a $500,000 Silver Eagle before tackling the inaugural $7.5 million Golden Eagle in Sydney two years ago.

"It's great to see the little horse back in that sort of form. I'm rapt," Brunton said.

Carr also was elated and showed her excitement by embracing the trainer after weighing in and declared "He's back".

"He felt just like he did when he was winning all of those good races over two years ago. I'm rapt."

The Dundeel gelding paraded like days of old and his closing sectionals suggest he is ready for the next stage of his mission.

"He will go to the WFA Tasmanian Stakes (1600m) and then we will assess where to go from there," Brunton said.

And Beyond showed he will be up to weight-for-age events going forward with a courageous second.

The Tanya Hanson-trained gelding was having his first try against the big boys and despite being severely disadvantaged at weight-for-age weight conditions he ran out of his skin.

"We were rapt with his first try at weight-for-age, so we will head to the Tasmania Stakes in Hobart on 7 January and that's as far as we are planning at this stage," Hanson said.
