Evans begins new chapter in Murray Bridge

Kristi Evans is excited about the next chapter of her racing career in new surrounds at Murray Bridge.

Kristi Evans, who grew up in Inman Valley, worked at Milluna Stud in her early years before moving to Lindsay Park where she learnt to ride trackwork alongside the likes of Tony Mcevoy.

But after her honing her training career in the Adelaide Hills at Kuitpo, the day to day rigors of travelling horses to Adelaide for trackwork had run its course and helped force the move to the state's fastest growing training centre.

"We were trucking down to Morphettville, we'd take 11 horses down on a daily rotation,'' Evans said.

"They weren't going every day, it was a pretty tough gig.

"(And) Kuitpo isn't the warmest place and in the depth of the winter.

"We spent 16 years in the Hills, it came up we needed to find our own place, Michael Hickmott contacted me saying this place was going to be available, we walked in, and it was a no brainer, it was ready to go,'' she said.

Evans said the property had everything she wanted, the right facilities where she could put more time into her horses.

"Everything is simplified now. I can concentrate on the training which I've wanted to do full time and it's been wonderful moving up here,'' Evans said.

Aside of her own property Evans said being a Murray Bridge and seeing the rapid growth of Gifford Hill was exciting.

"I think they (facilities) are world class,'' Evans said.

"They are constantly doing something, and the end result is going to be beautiful.

"It's a lovely track to train at, it's nice and quiet, everyone gets along and they've been very supportive of us coming here.

And she is also one of the biggest supporters of young riders and is enthusiastic about nurturing the next generation in racing.

"I just think we need young people in the industry,'' Evans said.

"It's important of us as the older generation to pass that on

"It's important for stables to take on young people, get them involved and passionate about what they do,'' she said.
