Take two for buckjumping Rose

Shades of Rose is ready to put an inglorious first-up performance behind her.

A buckjumping display put paid to the chances of Shades Of Rose extending her unbeaten record to four, but having successfully passed a subsequent barrier trial test, she will be out to get her career back on track at Rosehill.

Resuming at the same venue a fortnight ago, the filly reacted badly when her saddle slipped shortly after the start with jockey Tim Clark doing a good job to stay on board.

It was a tough watch for trainer Bjorn Baker, who felt the three-year-old's conformation, combined with a recent growth spurt, may have contributed to the saddle slipping in the wet weather.

"She's got an odd shape. She is a big-framed filly and she has really grown since she first came into the stable," Baker said.

"It was just one of those things so hopefully it doesn't happen next time."

Shades Of Rose has since won a barrier trial without incident and Baker is not anticipating a repeat of her buckjumping antics when she returns to Rosehill on Saturday.

Rachel King partnered her in the trial and will have the race day ride and Baker says all the lead-up signs point to a competitive performance.

"Her work has been really good since and she has been nice and relaxed," he said.

"She has got a lot of ability."

Shades Of Rose will be among a handful of Rosehill runners for Baker, along with Night Of Power, who has been freshened for a distance drop from 1800m to the 1400m of Saturday's Victor Ludorum @ Darley Handicap, and two-year-old Renaissance Woman in the Furphy Handicap (1400m).

A daughter of 2013 Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Reliable Man, Renaissance Woman made up many lengths to break her maiden at Scone last start and Baker believes she has a bright future.

"I think she is a very promising staying filly," Baker said.

"I just wish it was 1500 (metres) on Saturday but it is going to be wet and demanding and that is going to suit her."
