Hickmott pair getting set for the spring

Leading Murray Bridge trainer Michael Hickmott will use the Morphettville Parks meeting to ramp up the preparations for two spring hopefuls on Saturday.

Promising three-year-old Taunting and sprinter Pindaric will have a gallop between races with Michael Hickmott hoping both horses will find themselves in some nice races in the coming months.

The pair haven't raced since the 2021 spring, which was one to forget for Hickmott.

Taunting went to Melbourne on a Caulfield Guineas preparation and chipped a knee, Pindaric ran on Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington and did a suspensory and on the same day Lord Vladivostok started favourite and fractured a pelvis.

"I didn't have a great spring,'' Hickmott said.

"I was very open knowing I was going to have a rebuilding season, but all the nice progressive horses got injured, it was like I ran over more than my share of black cats.

"It's fantastic of the SAJC to allow them to gallop on Saturday. I was hesitant to trial these horses coming back from injury on the fibre sand and it's also good to give them a day away at the races,'' he said.

Pindaric has only had the eight starts and Hickmott said he could be a horse who can measure-up in the Group 3 Leon Macdonald Stakes at Morphettville in September.

"I'd love to see him in a Spring Stakes, maybe the Leon Macdonald Stakes might be a nice race for him at 1400m,'' Hickmott said.

"I'm not backwards in coming forward in saying I think Taunting is the best horse I've trained.

"I'm just going to let him guide me, we'll just play the ball as it bounces. He's got a beautifully unexposed rating and they're both really good horses,'' he said.

Hickmott also has Triton Rising back at the races and coming off a nice return at the trials.

"He's a horse who had a few problems and he seems to have really thrived since we've been training him on the heavy sand here at the farm,'' Hickmott said.

"His trial the other day was his best piece of work for me, he'll improve on whatever he does on Saturday,'' he said.
