It was Todd Pannell at his patient and brilliant best.

He caused an upset in the opening race aboard the Andrew Noblet-trained Bookman before guiding high-priced Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained two-year-old Eros to a soft victory.

Talented mare Quietly Discreet was the third of Pannell's wins scoring impressively first-up for the Dan Clarken and Oopy MacGillivray stable before the most impressive of his four victories came with Knightstown who produced a huge finishing burst to run down favourite Chicago Storm.

Apprentice Ben Price also got in on the action with a treble of his own.

Price was in the saddle as Ashton Downing's Cashin' Chex continued his brilliant form to win early before combining with River Twain for the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable, his third win coming in the last race of the day aboard Tupoleu for Stuart Gower.

It was a day of trebles at Port Augusta on Sunday.

Lachlan Overall's emergence as one of the brightest riding prospects continued with a treble while fellow apprentice Alana Livesey matched him also riding three winners.

Overall has enjoyed a brilliant start to his riding carer with 20 wins since debuting in February.

His hard work and willingness to travel interstate has seen him ride nine winners (and 10 placegetters from 45 rides) in July at a strike-rate of 20 per cent runners to winners.
