Trainer Craig Carmody is hoping he's found the right race for the lightly-raced Edna to get on the winner's list at her final chance as a three-year-old filly at Kembla Grange on Saturday.

Edna has improved with every run in her maiden preparation after Carmody  took his time to bring the Stratum Star filly to the races.

She went unplaced in two midweek metropolitan runs before producing a gutsy display on speed when third at Goulburn at her last outing on July 18.

Carmody expects she will be battle hardened by those recent experiences when she chases a breakthrough success in the Cordeaux Heights F&M Maiden Plate (1200m).

"It looks like a nice race for her," Carmody said.

"She has drawn a bit tricky but she has done very well since her run at Goulburn, it was a pretty gallant run having to work from an outside barrier again.

"She went forward, took up the running and just got collared late by a couple of nice horses.

"I think the form out of a race like that should hold up well."

Edna has been kept safe in betting with TAB listing the filly as a $5 elect to salute on the weekend.

Carmody will utilise apprentice Amy McLucas 3kg claim in the sprint event and hopes the young rider can settle somewhere close to the lead from barrier nine.

"I would say she will go forward again but would be reluctant for her to go as forward as she did the other day," Carmody said. "If we could have a sit that would be great but we can leave that up to Amy.

"She gets in well after Amy's claim so she can use a bit of petrol without overdoing it and find a little spot just off the speed. Hopefully, we might get a bit of an upgrade but she can handle the heavy so it shouldn't bother her too much."

Carmody will also welcome back the lightly-raced Fireman in the Happy 60th Birthday Snap CG&E Maiden Plate (1200m). Fireman has so far failed to beat a runner home in three career starts but Carmody believes the son of the Factor has more talent than he has shown on raceday.

"He is a horse that has always shown me a little bit at home but just hasn't delivered yet at the races for one reason or another," he said. "I couldn't be happier with him going into Saturday and drawing the one gate is really going to help.

"Hopefully he can get a cosy run and be hitting the line better than he has been at his past couple."

James Innes Jnr rides Fireman from barrier 1 with TAB rating him a $17 chance to turn his form around.
