Apprentice launches career with winning success

Few apprentices have had a more solid grounding for their race debut than Lauryn Bingley so it was no surprise that the 19-year-old took only two rides to land her first winner.

Bingley launched her career in Hobart on Sunday and, after finishing third at her first outing on Kuroset, broke through 35 minutes later on Neutralize in the Class 1 Handicap.
She had the Scott Brunton-trained mare quickly out of the barriers and soon took up the running.

Neutralize was allowed to bowl freely in the lead before Bingley moved wider on the track approaching the home turn in search of better going.

Outsider Punk Princess issued a challenge late but Bingley maintained a nice balance and kept Neutralize going to record a half-length win.

Bingley said she was grateful to Brunton for supplying her first two race rides.

"He has also supported me by giving me heaps of trial rides," she said.

Bingley began riding in trials almost two years ago and had ridden in more than 130 trials before graduating to race riding.

She was almost ready to make her debut much earlier but had a fall and decided to take a break.

"I was fairly immature when I first started my apprenticeship and taking a break was the best thing to do …  it helped me decide that this is what I really want to do so I got on with it."

Bingley is apprenticed to experienced Longford trainer Tanya Hanson who is now training in partnership with former star apprentice Kyle Maskiell.
