Pocket rocket notches another stakes win.

PINT-SIZED galloper The Inevitable kept his unbeaten record this season intact when he scored an effortless win in the $125,000 Kevin Sharkie Tasmanian Stakes over 1600 metres at Elwick on Friday.

In Brief

  • The Inevitable makes light of latest task.
  • Small field plays into the lttle champ's hands.
  • Thomas Lyons next target for Brunton's stable star.

Trainer Scott Brunton saddled up the four starters with The Inevitable ($1.28) the short-priced favourite and he was expected to be too good for his stablemates, First Accused, Mandela Effect and Bond Street Beau.

And that's the way they finished with the first four paying $2.10 for every dollar invested and paid less than the trifecta ($2.40) that required only three in finishing order.

Brunton was ecstatic with the result owing to the issues the team had in preparing the gelded son of Dundeel for his fourth start this preparation.

Brunton's life partner and The Inevitable's minder and co-trainer Tegan Keys was nervous before the race but after the little champion cruised past race leader First Accused to register his 14th career win, she heaved a sigh of relief.

One of the gelding's many part-owners, Wayne Upton, summed up the feelings of all connected with The Inevitable.

"This horse is little and he's only racing here in Tassie because of his size," Upton said.

"For a horse that has been through what he has, there is only one word to adequately describe him – courageous.

"He proved he could match it with the big boys when he was a three-year-old and at four, but the issues he had along the way have prevented him from going to the next level.

"He deserves to get a berth in the AllStar Mile in Melbourne and that's where we hope to end up in March.

"For him to win and do what he has at his four starts this preparation is testament to his ability and desire to be a racehorse."

Brunton confirmed the $5 million AllStar Mile at Moonee Valley would hopefully be his grand final and gaining a start in that event, for 10 of the 15 runners, is based on popularity.

Marketing campaigns are already being forged by connections of all nominees to encourage the public to vote for their horse and Tasmania needs to get behind the little Tassie battler.

Voting for the AllStar Mile starts early next month.

Brunton said The Inevitable would tackle thre weight-for-age Thomas Lyons on Hobart Cup day and then look for a race in Melbourne as a lead-up to the AllStar Mile.
