Tips and race by race preview by Nick Berney for Friday's Canterbury Park meeting. Selections based on a good track. Monitor for bias/pattern.

Racecourse : Canterbury Park (Australia).
Racecourse : Canterbury Park (Australia).

Race 1 - 6:00PM RACING AND SPORTS HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

7. Inhibitions was honest on debut at Randwick, running fourth in a high-rating race. Further, she has since trialled well in-between runs and went through the line not extended in a solid time heat. The Godolphin galloper has a tricky draw but will appreciate the rise in distance and brings a race experience edge. In addition, he has the best last-start figure and represents value. Each-way.

Dangers: Debutante 8. Lady Jezam won a recent trial at Warwick Farm, beating notable gallopers Facile and Lazzago. She will roll forward and be hard to catch with a lightweight. 4. Carnaby tried hard first-up at Canberra and raced in the inferior ground. He will be fitter for that and maps to have all favours. 6. French Endeavour is an improving type and market watch on 3. Vomo Island.

How to play it: Inhibitions E/W ($8.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 2 - 6:30PM TAB PLATE (1250 METRES)

6. Coriolis has been ultra-consistent all preparation in solid time races and looks well placed here. She was honest last start at Warwick Farm in a race that has since produced multiple subsequent placegetters. The three-year-old brings a strong ratings profile relative to her rivals and is at optimal fitness. Expect a bold showing.

Dangers7. In Love And War resumes after two solid hit outs at the trials. First-up last prep, she got too far back in a slow tempo, but to her credit, she ran on well. The dry track suits and expect her to be savaging the line. Forget 1. Windshadow's last start, and he brings a solid SP profile. Debutant 2. Lipscani won a recent heat at Randwick, albeit on the polytrack. Market watch 5. Din who resumes after a long-time off the scene.

How to play it: Coriolis WIN ($2.30 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 3 - 7:00PM BLUEBLOOD THOROUGHBREDS HANDICAP (1550 METRES)

7. Episodic is a nice type and was honest last start at Kensington in a high-rating race with decisive margins. Moreover, she drifted late in the trade, but all key indicators suggest she would improve from the run and her ratings/sectional profile support this. The three-year-old has a tricky draw but will appreciate the rise in distance and brings a competitive last-start figure. Each-way.

Dangers1. Strait Acer is 48 days between runs but returns to the track as a gelding and brings the clear best form into this event. He has a strong profile for this and is a key late-market watch. 2. Tavi Time is a lightly raced improver with a solid starting price profile. He has won by dominant margins in both starts this prep and deserves his shot at the metropolitan level. 7. Infinitive is consistent and can sprint off slow/fast tempos. Add 4. Fairway Star who gets maps favours.

How to play it: Episodic E/W ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Race 4 - 7:30PM DARBY RACING HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

4. Black Duke, who represents value, resumed for his new trainer Con Karakatsanis at Kensington 14 days ago, and his run had merit. Further, he had the pace/bias against him, and although well beaten, he clocked some of the fastest closing splits of the meeting. The five-year-old is suited over more distance, has a strong record at this track and can rate to win. Each-way.

Dangers9. Amortal resumes and won a trial recently at Randwick. Moreover, he was ridden out but ran a slick time relative to the morning. 2. Tuscon Valley has had a break between runs but has a fantastic record and deserves her chance at the metropolitan level. She will roll forward and give a sight. 1. Pokerjack is rock-hard fit and gets in well at the weights after the astute claim for apprentice Amy McLucas.

How to play it: Black Duke E/W ($9.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 5 - 8:00PM KIA EVENING STAR (1550 METRES)

3. For Valour had all favours last start running second at Rosehill but was brave in a duel for the entire straight and never shirked her task. Further, the winner of that race, Think About It, subsequently won again in a stronger grade. He profiles well for this event and finally gets out to a preferred trip where historically, he has produced his peak figures. Additionally, he maps to have all favours and will be hard to run down.

Dangers1. Night Of Power must carry a hefty weight, but he hit the line well last start at Randwick. He drops in grade, maps to be within striking distance and has a turn of foot. 4. Silent Agenda tried hard last start, and the rise in distance suits here. 2. Dr Evil was perfectly ridden to score in Midway grade last start, but he still ran solid time. Add 7. Decadent Tale to trifectas and first fours.

How to play it: For Valour WIN ($3.30 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Race 6 - 8:30PM THE AGENCY REAL ESTATE HANDICAP (1900 METRES)

15. Fairway Star still needs to gain a start but is on an upwards ratings spiral this prep and has been excelling on dry surfaces. The three-year-old was dominant, winning last start at Gosford, albeit well-suited, but she showed a strong turn of foot and sprinted one of the fastest final 200m splits of the meeting. The Bjorn Baker trained galloper maps to have all favours, brings the best last start figure, and her ratings/sectional profile suggests the step up in trip is ideal.

Dangers3. Sophia's Magic started a well fancied even money favourite last start and was honest in defeat, running third. Further, she was left in front a long way from home and was only narrowly beaten over the concluding stages. She is proven at this track/distance and maps well with Nash Rawiller riding. Forgive 9. Nicochet's last start where he was blocked at critical stages in the straight and went to the line untested. 1. Three Wise Men drops in grade and add 10. Insider Trader to trifectas and first fours.

How to play it: Fairway Star WIN ($3.40 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Race 7 - 9:00PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

10. Zanzibar Gem profiles well for this event and has a positive race setup. The mare's run was full of merit last start when running third at Warwick Farm in a similar grade. Moreover, she got too far back from a tricky draw and wasn't suited to the race shape. To her credit, she rattled home, ran one of the fastest final 600m splits of the meeting, and gave every indication she could step off that performance. The Kris Lees trained galloper receives a significant barrier change, allowing her to settle closer, and she brings the best last-start figure. Further, she gets in with a light weight which will only enhance her key asset in acceleration. Hard to beat with even luck.

Dangers6. Girl Mania ran well into third place at this track/distance seven days ago in a high-rating race. She's on the backup and will look for the last shot. 2. Holy Tycoon has been racing honestly and gets Nash Rawiller on for the first time. 8. Highly Ambitious can sprint fresh and 9. Very Sharp is a knockout chance.

How to play it: Zanzibar Gem WIN ($3.20 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Race 8 - 9:30PM FURPHY HANDICAP (1250 METRES)

8. Shadow Devil returned as a gelding last start at Warwick Farm and was specked $8.0-$6.5 late in the trade. The four-year-old was slowly away and had too much to do but ran on well. The gelding can improve significantly here, with the blinkers coming off and going onto a dry deck is ideal where he produces his peak figures. He will need some luck from the inside draw, but Tom Sherry rides, who has a great affiliation with him.

Dangers2. The Art Of Flying has a tricky draw but follows a similar race pattern to last prep, where he won at this track/distance second-up. The blinkers go on, and he can rate to win. 16. Field Wiri's last start was full of merit, and she should've finished closer. She had multiple factors against, and once clear in the straight, she found the line well. 9. Brudenell has a solid SP profile and a strong record. Add 14. Air Of Alsace and 13. Tintookie to trifectas and first fours.

How to play it: Shadow Devil WIN ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Best Bet: Race 7 # 10 - Zanzibar Gem

Best Value: Race 3 # 9 - Episodic
