The Gov seeks more metro success

DUAL licenced horseman Shayne Cahill is confident former New Zealand mare The Gov can overcome a sticky barrier in search of consecutive city wins at Morphettville on Saturday.

The Gov comes off her most impressive win on Australian soil when she rode the speed to win at Murray Bridge and the Adelaide Cup winning jockey said the wide barrier can be offset with the 3kg claim for apprentice Sheriden Tomlinson.

"There looks to be good speed in the race but just how the track is playing by the last race will be the query,'' Shayne Cahill said.

"We will go in with an open mind, the most important thing with her is getting her to relax. She was able to do that last start which was nice to see, especially when we decided to ride her on speed.

"She was long overdue for a city win so that was pleasing to see,'' he said.

Cahill said the mare had continue to work well at home.

"She certainly hasn't gone backwards,'' Cahill said.

"She's gets in OK after the claim, this looks another winnable race for her,'' he said.

He also saddles up Zac's Back early in the day who steps up to city grade on the back of a Strathalbyn maiden win.

"Things didn't really go as smooth as we'd liked the other day, so for him to still be able to win was a good result,'' Cahill said.

"We're throwing him in the deep end a little bit, but at the same time, it's a Class 1 so they've all only won the one race, the one thing we do know with him is he handles the wet tracks and that could be the key on Saturday,'' he said.
