Strathalbyn trainer Andrew Clarken said I Am Bene was in good shape for her Melbourne return after she caught the eye first-up from a spell when beaten 1.4 lengths behind Snapped in the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes at Morphettville last month.

It will be the second time I Am Bene steps out at Flemington having finished down the track in the Group 2 Let's Elope in the spring. That followed a career peak performance when she won at Caulfield under Ben Melham.

"I'm really happy with her,'' Clarken said.

"She had a few issues with her feet there for a little while and the owner was considering retiring this year but she seems to be over that and has come on well from her first-up run,'' he said.

Clarken said a good run on Saturday would see the mare push on towards the $175,000 Listed Santa Ana Lane Sprint Series Final over the 1200m at Flemington on July 1.

"Everything is still up in the air but if she runs well we can press on to the final and then look towards the spring,'' he said.

Callan Murray is back in the saddle aboard the Peter Hardacre-trained Press Down who is having his second successive Flemington outing after being beaten 2.05 lengths behind Legio Ten last time out.

Press Down was a Morphettville winner in April before running third behind I'mlovin'ya in the Listed Redelva Stakes before he was beaten 4.6 lengths behind Royal Merchant in the Group 2 Tobin Bronze.
