King Charles the crowning target for The Inevitable

Superstar gelding The Inevitable ramped up his preparation for a return to racing with a jumpout in Hobart on Tuesday following the morning trials.

With regular trackwork rider Tegan Keys in the saddle, The Inevitable comfortably had the measure of stablemates I'm So Cool and So Astounding over 800m, leaving trainer Scott Brunton happy with how the son of Dundeel is progressing, having last raced when third in the All-Star Mile at Moonee Valley back in March.

"Happy with what he did today, he'll likely have a trial in a fortnight, or we might even try to do something with him at the next Hobart meeting (13 August)," said Brunton.

Brunton has mapped out a preparation that includes a tilt at the inaugural running of the $5million King Charles at Royal Randwick on 14 October.

"We're planning to kick off in the Memsie Stakes (2 September) over 1400m at Caulfield.

"Then we'll head up to Sydney for the Epsom and ultimately a crack at the King Charles," Brunton added.

The Inevitable established himself as a force in Australian racing during his first New South Wales trip back in 2019, winning the $501,000 Silver Eagle during his four-year-old season.

He was then subsequently unplaced in the $7.5million Golden Eagle, leaving Brunton with mixed emotions on the NSW experience.

"Everything that could go wrong for us did in the Golden Eagle," Brunton laughed.

"Hopefully we have a bit more luck this time."
